A designated space for homeschooling will help you establish rhythms and routines. It doesn’t have to be a separate room, your kitchen table will work just fine! But do have a designated cabinet or shelf where you store your homeschooling items. Keep reading to see how I have I curated our space over the years to make it functional! - If you have the space or room for a separate homeschool table, head on over to Facebook marketplace and snag one used that you won’t mind your kiddos writing on, painting on, etc.
- My table didn’t come with chairs from marketplace, so I added these benches. They come with a back that we simply didn’t attach.
- Cubed shelves are an inexpensive and functional way to organize a homeschool space! You can get them anywhere, but in my opinion, the ones from ikea are the sturdiest. We started out with a 4×2 way back when but have since upgraded to covering one entire wall with two 4×4 units! Linked here.
- Grab yourself some stacking storage boxes for various different materials. These storage boxes stack 4 per cube shelf!
- These are my favorite cubed baskets! Super sturdy, and a great bang for your buck. Perfect for keeping all materials for each child separate. I add their name and they grab their basket each morning. Linked here.
- Add these little clip on labels to your baskets!

Get yourself a good little ink less label maker like the one!
Let’s talk maps. I firmly believe you should add a map with blue water somewhere in your homeschool space. Why blue water? Because kids need to make the distinction between land and water. Pretty beige maps are just that. Pretty. But not functional for learning. Linking my favorite maps here and here.
While your add it, make sure to add a globe to your space. Kids need both maps and globes so they learn that Russia and Alaska are indeed next to each other! These can be kind of expensive so look for one that is used or just go ahead and invest. Most of the ones on Amazon are only 8”. This is too small for learning in my opinion. Look for a 12”. In a pinch, just grab an inflatable.
For a little decoration, add an ABC banner using twine and clothes pins. I love these faith based alphabet cards from Tiny Theologians.

Happy Homeschooling!!!
With Love, From Gin xoxo
